IPEC Federation
The IPEC Federation, or in short the Federation, is a global organisation consisting of the five existing regional IPECs:
- IPEC-Americas
- IPEC China
- IPEC Europe
- IPEC Japan
- IPEC India
Formally created in 2010 in Cannes (France), the Federation provides a unified voice to promote the best use of excipients in medicines as a means of improving patient treatment and safety.
Excipient play a critical role in the manufacture of medicines by helping to preserve the efficacy, safety, and stability of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), and helping to ensure that they deliver their promised benefits to patients. An optimal use of excipients provides pharmaceutical manufacturers with drug development cost-savings, enhances functionality capability and can also assist in drug formulation innovation.
Key objectives for the Federation include harmonisation of standards, promoting supply chain security, managing global regulatory expectations as well as providing expertise on excipients to others relevant stakeholders.
Over 250 national and multi-national excipient manufacturers, distributors and finished drug product makers are members of at least one regional IPEC and many are member of two or more.
